Sixteen Border Security Force (BSF) personnel have been honored with gallantry medals for their remarkable courage and valor during Operation Sindoor against Pakistan. These personnel were part of a larger group of 233 police officers recognized for their gallantry across various operations in the country. The Ministry of Home Affairs announced that a total of 1,090 police personnel from Central and State forces received medals for their exemplary service.
The Independence Day saw the presentation of medals, with 233 personnel receiving the Medal for Gallantry, 99 the President’s Medal for Distinguished Service, and 758 the Medal for Meritorious Service. The Border Security Force acknowledged the bravery and dedication of the 16 awarded personnel, highlighting their unwavering commitment during Operation Sindoor, emphasizing the nation’s trust in its first line of defense.
Operation Sindoor marked India’s response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, targeting terrorist and military installations in Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir. The operation, conducted from May 7 to 10, resulted in casualties on both sides. Two BSF personnel lost their lives, and seven others sustained injuries during the intense mission.
Among the recognized heroes is Sub-Inspector Vyas Dev, who, despite losing a leg due to enemy fire, displayed immense courage alongside Constable Suddi Rabha by ensuring ammunition supply to frontline troops. Assistant Commandant Abhishek Srivastav’s unit at the Kharkola border post engaged and neutralized Pakistani drones, with tragic consequences as Sub-Inspector Mohammed Imteyaj and Constable Deepak Chingakham made the ultimate sacrifice.
Deputy Commandant Ravindra Rathore’s team, including Inspector Devi Lal and others, showcased operational brilliance under pressure, saving a fellow soldier’s life. These acts of valor and selflessness exemplify the dedication and sacrifice of India’s security forces in protecting the nation’s borders.
Assistant Sub-Inspector Udai Vir Singh’s daring act in destroying a Pakistani surveillance camera amidst heavy enemy fire and Assistant Sub-Inspector Rajappa B.T. and Constable Manohar Xalxo’s mission to secure ammunition at a critical post underscore the strategic importance of their roles in safeguarding the border.
Assistant Commandant Alok Negi and his team’s relentless mortar fire demonstrated tactical precision and operational dominance, ensuring zero casualties during a critical 48-hour period. The bravery and strategic acumen displayed by these personnel reflect the high standards of professionalism and commitment within India’s security apparatus.
As the nation recognizes and honors these gallant individuals, their actions serve as a testament to the unwavering dedication and valor exhibited by security forces in safeguarding India’s borders and national security.
