The King’s Awards for Enterprise, a prestigious recognition of outstanding UK businesses, announced its 197 recipients from various sectors across the UK and Channel Islands. These awards highlight the ambition, ingenuity, and success of the country’s business community, contributing significantly to economic growth and societal improvement.
Among the recipients, firms from Stirling to Somerset were celebrated, with two businesses, Sonardyne International and Delta Fire, standing out by receiving awards in two categories each. The awards, honoring achievements in International Trade, Innovation, Sustainable Development, and Promoting Opportunity Through Social Mobility, reflect the dedication of these businesses to excellence and growth.
Gareth Thomas, Minister for Services, Small Businesses, and Exports, praised the awardees for showcasing the best of British business talent and their invaluable contributions to local and global communities. The majority of the winning businesses, 176 out of 197, are SMEs, underscoring the importance of supporting small enterprises to drive economic progress.
The UK government has been proactive in aiding small businesses, offering support such as protection from National Insurance increases, business rates relief, and initiatives to boost exports and tackle late payments. These efforts aim to enhance SME productivity, with even a 1% increase per year potentially adding billions to the UK economy over the next five years.
Representing the awardees, Graham Brown of Sonardyne International expressed delight at the recognition, emphasizing the company’s commitment to sustainable practices in international trade. Delta Fire’s Managing Director, Ian Gardner, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the company’s journey from a small workshop to a leading manufacturer with a focus on innovation and sustainability.
The King’s Awards for Enterprise, formerly known as The Queen’s Awards, have a rich history dating back to 1965 and have recognized over 8,000 companies. The awards, now in their 59th year, continue to honor outstanding UK businesses, with His Majesty’s Lord Lieutenants presenting the awards locally and inviting representatives to a special Royal reception.
Case studies of awardees like Sonardyne International and Delta Fire exemplify the diversity and excellence of the businesses recognized. Other notable recipients include Level Peaks, a defense equipment supplier managed by ex-British Military Special Forces Veterans, and Mixergy, an Oxford-based company lauded for its innovative hot water tank technology.
