The Chief of the Indonesian Navy Admiral Dr. Muhammad Ali was honored with Singapore’s prestigious military award, the Meritorious Service Medal (Military). President Tharman Shanmugaratnam conferred the award to ADM Dr. Ali, recognizing his efforts in strengthening the bond between the Indonesian Navy and the Republic of Singapore Navy.
Minister for Defence Dr. Ng Eng Hen presented the award to ADM Dr. Ali during an investiture at the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF). The award was a testament to ADM Dr. Ali’s leadership in fostering cooperation between the two navies, particularly through initiatives like the Defence Cooperation Agreement and Joint Training in the Natuna Sea.
ADM Dr. Ali’s support for initiatives like the Coordinated Patrol Indonesia-Singapore led to enhanced practical collaboration in maritime security. The regular high-level visits, course cross-attendance, and bilateral exercises between the navies, such as Exercise Eagle Indopura and Exercise Joint Minex Pandu, further solidified the relationship.
The interactions facilitated mutual understanding, improved interoperability, and strengthened the people-to-people ties between the Indonesian Navy and the Republic of Singapore Navy. ADM Dr. Ali’s visit to Singapore from 12 to 14 March 2025 included engagements like inspecting a Guard of Honour and meeting with Dr. Ng and Chief of Navy Rear Admiral Sean Wat.
